Glen Keane (update)

CartoonBrew reported this afternoon that Glen Keane has resigned from Disney after 38 years. Glen was responsible for many of my favorite sequences and characters well before I ever knew who he was.  From the time I was a child watching Ariel sing or Beast transform I knew that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. For that I owe Mr. Keane a large dept of gratitude for helping me find my path in art.  I wish him the best of luck as he moves on to explore animation.

Click here for the original post and here for his wonderful resignation letter. Also please look through Youtube for some of his lectures and animation tests.

Update:
There has been a large outcry and I wanted to link you to a couple other posts that have come up about this.
Immersed in Movies offers a nice look into his challenge in the creation of  Tangled (Rapunzel) and how he felt he never quite got his vision.
There is also a podcast discussing it over at Magical Definition

Please feel free to links of blogs that I have missed.

  3. As many will agree, yes Glen is one of the best animators of all time. He is certainly my idol. However, the new artists at the studio could open up a new era. Malcon Pierce, Andrew Chesworth & Zach Parrish to name but a few.

Could be excited times for both parties :)
